The Berwickshire High School

Promoting Positive Behaviour

The majority of students at the Berwickshire High School behave appropriately most of the time. To encourage positive behaviour in the early years, S1 and S2 students each have a school planner in which there are pages to collect positive points. Any member of staff can award points for good behaviour, helpfulness, giving out equipment, settling to work quickly, reaching targets set, or any other reason to help teaching and learning in the classroom.

S5 and S6 students assist with the checking and collating of points on a regular basis and prizes are awarded throughout the year.

At the end of the academic year, S1 and S2 pupils with the most points will be involved in a final reward - usually a trip out of school.

Positive Post Cards and positive referrals can also be awarded at any time by any member of staff for exceptional work, attitude or behaviour. A letter will be sent home at the end of each term from the Guidance Teacher, for students who have had several referrals from different departments.

A more mature approach to learning is encouraged among our Middle School students and they will build up a Positive Profile that will also be acknowledged by letter at the end of each term. S3 and S4 students are awarded positive referrals by staff on a work-related basis. These are collated at the end of October, December and March and awards are distributed.
